FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between solid hardwood and engineered hardwood?

Solid hardwood is made from a single piece of wood throughout, while engineered hardwood has a real wood surface layered over a stable core. Solid hardwood can be refinished more times, but engineered is more moisture-resistant for below-grade or humid areas.

With proper care, hardwood flooring can last 50 years or longer. Occasional refinishing restores its appearance, allowing it to look new even after decades of use.

We don’t recommend it. Solid hardwood reacts to humidity and can warp in damp environments. Engineered hardwood or luxury vinyl plank are better options for those areas.

Use a soft broom or vacuum with a hardwood attachment to remove dirt. For deeper cleaning, use a damp (not wet) mop and a cleaner made specifically for hardwood. Avoid steam mops and harsh chemicals.

Typically every 7–10 years, depending on wear and finish type. Light sanding and re-coating can extend the time between full refinishings.

Over time, UV rays can alter wood color slightly. Window coverings and area rugs help minimize fading and keep tones even throughout the room.
